Generation means analysis of the twin-ear trait in maize
Article Abstract:
The penetrance and expressivity of the twin-ear trait in corn are investigated using generation means analysis. Hybridization studies reveal that the penetrance of the twin-ear trait was controlled by additive genetic effects with a contribution from epistatic effects in some cases. Further, the non-twin-ear trait exhibits complete dominance over the twin-ear trait. There are also indications that trait penetrance and expressivity are dependent on particular conditions during the plant's ontogenetic development.

Genetic variability as affected by selection in Iowa Stiff Stalk Synthetic Maize
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted on Iowa Stiff Stalk Synthetic maize (BSSS) to determine the effects of recurrent selection on genetic variability. A cross-class classification mating design was used to develop the half-sib and full-sib families to be observed. Results showed that recurrent selection increased the number of favorable alleles and subsequently decreased the dominance variation for a majority of the traits.
