Genes expressed in neurons of adult male Drosophila
Article Abstract:
Molecular biological techniques were performed to study roX1 and roX2 Drosophila genes, the expression of which in the adult fly is restricted to the neurons of the males. The two genes were found to be physically linked to female-specific genes that encode ovarian proteins. It was also demonstrated that the male-specific transcripts are positively regulated by the dosage compensation pathway in an all-or-none mode. The findings further indicated that X-linked, male-specific, noncoding RNAs can regulate the expression of linked genes that are expressed only in the females.

New "hogs" in Hedgehog transport and signal reception
Article Abstract:
Interference hedgehog (ihog) and Boi in he fruit fly Drosophila and its mammalian homologs Boc and Cdo are transmembrane proteins that interact with Hedgehog (Hh). These findings raise new questions about the physical composition of Hh receptors, and how distinct responses to a single signal could be achieved.
