Genetic control of self-incompatibility in Senecio squalidus L. (Asteraceae): a successful colonizing species
Article Abstract:
Genetic control of self-incompatibility in Senecio squalidus L. (Asteraceae)(Oxford ragwort) has been studied, and it is found to be a successful colonizing species. Genetic data show that the self-incompatibility (SI) system of S. squalidus is sporophytic and controlled by one multiallelic S. locus. Alleles of the S. locus show the dominance/recessive relationships characteristic of sporophytic SI.

Reproductive isolation of a new hybrid species, Senecio eboracensis Abbott & Lowe (Asteraceae)
Article Abstract:
The nature and extent of reproductive isolation was examined between a new self-compatible hybrid species Senecio eboracensis and its parents, self-incompatible S. Squalidus and self-compatible S. vulgaris. It was concluded that the strong breeding barriers existed between the new hybrid species and its two parents.

Molecular differentiation within and among island populations of the endemic plant Scalesia affinis (Asteraceae) from the Galapagos Islands
Article Abstract:
Scalesia affinis is an evergreen perennial shrub 3m tall that occurs on lava beds from sea level to approximately 1000m. Molecular variation was evaluated in seven populations of the endemic species Scalesia affinis within and among islands of the Galapagos.
