Genetic variability of the heme uptake system among different strains of the fish pathogen Vibrio anguillarum: Identification of a new heme receptor
Article Abstract:
The ability to utilize heme compounds as iron sources is determined in Vibrio anguillarum strains belonging to serotypes O1 to O10. The new heme receptors, huvS and huvA, sequences alignment, as well as the analysis of their respective upstream and downstream DNA sequences, show that horizontal transfer and recombination might be responsible for generating this genetic diversity.

Development of a cob-18S rRNA gene real-time PCR assay for quantifying Pfiesteria shumwayae in the natural environment
Article Abstract:
A real-time quantitative PCR assay based on miochondrial cytochrome b (cob) and 18S rRNA gene is developed and Pfiesteria shumwayae abundance is investigated in several geographic locations. Results reveal that the real-time PCR assay developed is useful for specific quantification of Pfiesteria shumwayae, which is distributed widely at the American coasts.

Structure and biosynthesis of the BT peptide antibiotic from Brevibacillus texasporus
Article Abstract:
The purification and determination of the structure of the most abundant BT isomer, BT1583, from Brevibacillus texasporus is reported. Further, the discovery of novel nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) codons for valine, lysine, ornithine and tyrosine is described.
