Getting samples - and scammed

Oceanographers of California Institute of Technology were caught in trouble when they went to Malaysia to collect drip water, bedrock and stalagmites samples from the caves. They had hired a local to handle logistics and other formalities for $6000 but after samples were collected from the caves, the contractor gave them a bill for $16000 and refused to ship the samples to the U.S.
