Heritability estimates of behaviors associated with hunting in dogs
Article Abstract:
There is generally only low to moderate heritability of behaviours associated with hunting in dogs, according to research investigating the heritability of hunting traits in some hunting dog breeds that point, track and retrieve birds. This limited heritability is probably a reflection of the advanced state of development in these breeds. No significant heritability for desire or tracking was seen in any breed apart from German shorthaired pointers.

Use of DNA fingerprinting to determine parentage in muscrats (Ondatra zibethicus)
Article Abstract:
Wild and captive muskrats were studied using DNA fingerprinting to determine parentage in wild populations. It was shown that a large amount of polymorphisms can be detected by DNA digested with the restriction enzyme Hae III and probed with Jeffrey's mini-satellite 33. In addition, DNA fingerprinting was found to be efficient in designating parentage in the captive group but not in the free-living population.
