Article Abstract:

Study is conducted to argue that the effect of competition on mate choice depends on whether it results in the choosy sex attaining high breeding value for total fitness, considering both direct and indirect fitness benefits. Three stages where competition might impact upon choice process are elaborated.

Article Abstract:

The hypotheses and the evidence in favor of the findings that females base their mate choice on several cues are examined. The consequences that the use of multiple cues may have for the process of sexual selection and the maintenance of genetic variation are discussed.
