Human adenoviruses and coliphages in urban runoff - impacted coastal waters of southern California
Article Abstract:
Measurements are presented of human adenovirus and coliphage levels in samples taken from California coastal waters between Malibu to the Mexican border. Human adenoviruses were found in one quarter of the samples, with genomes ranging between 880 to 7,500 per liter; coliphages were found in all samples, at concentrations between 5.3 to 3332 PFU (plaque forming units) with nearly half the sites exceeding state daily limits for recreational water quality.

Viral production, decay rates, and life strategies along a trophic gradient in the North Adriatic Sea
Article Abstract:
Independent measurements of viral production and decay rates along a trophic gradient of the north Adriatic basin is conducted to test the effect of different trophic conditions upon viral dynamics and whether the steady-state assumption reflects the in situ conditions under different ecological constraints. Increasing trophic conditions induced an increase of bacterioplankton growth rates and of the burst sizes.

Occurrence of human adenoviruses at two recreational beaches of the Great Lakes
Article Abstract:
The occurrence of human adenoviruses (HAdVs) in freshwaters at two popular recreational beaches on Lake Michigan is examined by using quantitative PCR assays. The studies have provided HAdV data for quantifying exposures and hence can be used for assessing the risks associated with recreational activities at Great Lakes beaches, with the aim of preventing transmission of HAdV-related diseases.
