In vivo regulation of glutamine synthetase activity in the marine chlorophyll b-containing cyanobacterium Prochlorococcus sp. strain PCC 9511 (Oxyphotobacteria)
Article Abstract:
Glutamine synthetase from Prochlorococcus sp. strain PCC 9511 is not affected by darkness or by inhibitors of glutamine synthase. However, enzyme activity is diminished during nitrogen starvation and phosphorus starvation. These responses may reflect an adaptation to conditions of minimal light and limited nutrients.

Streamlined regulation and gene loss as adaptive mechanisms in prochlorococcus for optimized nitrogen utilization in oligotrophic environments
Article Abstract:
Pochlorococcus was discovered in 1988, its major importance in the ecology of the oceans has become evident and led to the sequencing of the genomes of five representative ecotypes, MED4, MIT9313, MIT9312, and NATL2A and SS120. Focus is on the adaptive features of the nitrogen assimilatory pathway of Prochlorococcus, with special emphasis on a comparative analysis with other cyanobacteria.

Purification and characterization of limonoate dehydrogenase from Rhodococcus fascians
Article Abstract:
Microbiological research shows that the enzyme limonoate dehydrogenase of the organism Rhodococcus fascians uses limonate A-ring lactone as a substrate in limonoate dehydrogenase synthesis. Genetic sequencing data is discussed. An electrophoretic homogeneity technique was used to purify the enzyme, which has a molecular mass of approximately 128,000 Da. Isoelectric focusing experiments show that the enzyme has an isoelectric point of 4.9.
