Incorporating psychological health into biocultural models: Preliminary findings from Turkana women of Kenya
Article Abstract:
The potential benefits and limitations of including psychological stress data in a biocultural framework of human adaptability are investigated. The results have suggested that most sensitive indicators of Kenya's Turkana women's psychological experiences are culturally defined idioms of distress, which showed high concordance with measures of first-day salivary cortisol, whereas the other differences in stress reactivity are associated with the frequent movement of encampments, major herd losses and direct experiences of livestock raiding.

Maternal stress and fetal responses: Evolutionary perspectives on preterm delivery
Article Abstract:
A study seeks to examine if pregnancy outcomes reflect a compromise between maternal strategies for reproductive success and fetal strategies for growth and survival in an insufficient intrauterine environment. The epidemiological and neurohormonal evidence for the relationships and mechanisms responsible for regulating such strategies are explored.

Age, reproductive history, seasonally, and maternal body composition during pregnancy for nomadic Turkana of Kenya
Article Abstract:
Researchers study Turkana women in order to observe the relationship between their maternal nutritional investment throughout each trimester, during different seasonal stresses, and their physiological well-being, history of pregnancy, and age.
