Influence of freeze-thaw stress on the structure and function of microbial communities and denitrifying populations in soil
Article Abstract:
Microbial N(sub 2)O release during the course of thawing of soil was investigated in model experiment focusing on denitrification, since freeze-thaw is shown to cause significant physical and biological changes in soil, including a surge of N(sub 2)O and CO(sub 2). The results support the view that the flush of N(sub 2)O and CO(sub 2) is a result of increased microbial activity during the dynamic event of freeze and thaw, instead of mere entrapment of gases due to the freeze barrier.

Effects of various growth conditions in a chemostat on expression of virulence factors in Porphyromonas gingivalis
Article Abstract:
The effects of growth rate, medium and aeration on expression of major virulence factors and cellular proteins in Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 in a chemostat are investigated. The results have shown P. gingivalis to actively control expression of several virulence factors to survive in the widely fluctuating oral environment.
