Influence of structural properties and kinetic constraints on Bacillus cereus growth
Article Abstract:
An examination of the responses of Bacillus cereus to increasing quantities of agar was conducted. Of special concern were the influence of structural properties and kinetic constraints on the behavior of the species. Bacterial colonies responded to nutrient gradients by decreasing in size the farther they were from the nutrient source. The agar content influenced the decrease in colony size. The agar gel architecture did not affect the diffusivities of glucose and a protein, indicating that mechanical factors as well as other factors can influence microbial growth in the agar systems used.

Mechanisms of action of carvacrol on the food-borne pathogen Bacillus cereus
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to evaluate the action of carvacrol, a food additive, on food-borne pathogenic bacterial cells. Results show that the hydrophobic compound changes the permeability of cells, abolishing ion gradient, and causing cell death.
