Inheritance of isozymes in pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.)
Article Abstract:
The segregation and inheritance pattern of the isozymes in pedunculate oak, Quercus robur L., follow the 1:1 or 1:2:1 Mendelian ratios. Deviations from the Mendelian pattern are observed when the plants have rare alleles. The segregation and inheritance pattern of isozymes are studied in the seeds, radicles and bud tissues using gel electrophoresis and isoelectric focusing. Fifteen polymorphic gene loci control fourteen enzyme systems. Linkage is detected in 20 out of the 83 crosses tested, and these can be assigned to two linkage groups.

Mating patterns of Black Oak Quercus velutina (Fagaceae) in a Missouri oak-hickory forest
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the outcrossing rates, pollen pool genetic structure, and the size of effective pollination neighborhood in a population of black oak, Quercus velutina, in a Missouri oak-hickory forest. Using a TwoGener analysis of the pollen gene pool, it was estimated that the effective pollination area had a radius of 41.9m, suggesting that the local neighborhood of wind-pollinated forest tree populations might be relatively small, creating opportunities for local selection and genetic drift.
