Inhibitory effects of secondary metabolites from the red alga Delisea pulchra on swarming motility of Proteus mirabilis
Article Abstract:
The inhibitory effect of secondary metabolites of the Australian red alga, Delisea pulchra cause abnormal and uncoordinated swarming motility of the human pathogen, Proteus mirabilis. The effects of D. pulchra are specific towards the swarming motility of P. mirabilis and do not affect the growth of this pathogen. D. pulchra exhibits this effect at a concentration, which does not affect the swimming motility, cell elongation, polynucleation and hyperflagellation.

Identification and characterization of a GDSL esterase gene located proximal to the swr quorum-sensing system of Serratia liquefaciens MG1
Article Abstract:
Results show that a GDSL-type esterase, EstA. is encoded by a gene upstream of swrR quorum-sensing system of Serratia liquefaciens MG1. Data indicate that EstA expression is independent of the swr quorum-sensing system. Functionally, EstA provides the bacterial cell access to carbon sources and supplies precursors for N-acyl-homoserine lactone biosynthesis.

How Delisea pulchra furanones affect quorum sensing and swarming motility in Serratia liquefaciens MG1
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on haloginated furanones produced by marine macroalga Delisea pulchra. The authors report that furanones control quorum-sensing target gene transcription in Serratia liquefaciens MG1, reduce serrawettin W2 and abolish swarming motility.
