Insights into the function of rim protein in photoreceptors and etiology of Stargardt's disease from the phenotype in abcr knockout mice
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate the function of RmP, which was believed to be the cause of delayed dark adaptation and lipofuscin accumulation in ABCR-mediated diseases. Generated mice with a null mutation in abcr gene was used for the experiments. Results indicated that delayed dark adaptation was caused by the accumulation in discs of the noncovalent complex between opsin and all-trans-retinaldehyde. A poisoning of the retinal pigment epithelium resulted from A2-E accumulation.

Sorting out toll signals
Article Abstract:
Toll-Like receptors (TLRs) recruit distinct combination of adaptors to induce TLR-specific gene expression after recognizing microbial products. It is demonstrated that the adaptor Toll/IL-1 receptor-domain-containing adaptor protein/myeloid differentiation factor 88 adaptor-like localizes to the plasma membrane by binding to phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate (PIP2).
