Making ethics fit: How companies are integrating ethics into their core foundation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted aimed a measuring the motivation and focus of bioscience companies that had chosen to address bioethics by conducting interviews with managers and executives at 13 bioscience companies of all sizes around the world. Companies reported that they had established advisory boards, reinforced ethics through hiring practices and employee performance evaluations, and encouraged their suppliers and partners to share standards and practices.

Biting back at animal activists
Article Abstract:
Oxford University undergraduates have formed a group called Pro-Test to fight against animal activists and support the use of animals in biomedical research. The American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) is holding a national meeting in Salt Lake City in October 15-19, 2006, where the conference would offer a workshop on screening potential animal-rights infiltrators during the recruitment process.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2006. The new Democratic Congress is eager to leave its mark on the agency, which has its action plan of developing policies and issuing new guidance documents for using epidemiologic data to improve drug-safety assessment in 2007.
