Male infertility and the genetics of spermatogenesis
Article Abstract:
Male infertility as it relates to the genetics of spermatogenesis has been investigated. Physiological studies in mice show that spermatogenesis and later phases in sperm maturing and activation are regulated in a complex way and that the regulatory events may be causes of infertility in men. In mice a large number of genes known to be expressed in testis or in maturing spermatocytes have been disrupted with surprising results. Novel forms of contraception may emerge from this research before prediction of fertility on the basis of genotype.

The genetics of cataract: our vision becomes clearer
Article Abstract:
Genetic studies of congenital cataract have demonstrated the challenges that come out of genetic heterogeneity. After the CAE1 (ital) locus was confirmed, nine new cataract loci were described. Relating genetics and age-related cataract is yet another challenge, and finding the specific genes involved may be dependent on completing an expressed sequence map of the human genome.

Genetic mapping of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the spine
Article Abstract:
Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the spine (OPLL) has been mapped to a predisposing locus on chromosome 6p close to the HLA complex. A genetic-linkage study has been carried out in 91 affected sib pairs from 53 Japanese families. OPPLL is a common disorder among Japanese people and all over Asia.
