Nearly identical bacteriophage structural gene sequences are widely distributed in both marine and freshwater environments
Article Abstract:
A conserved structural gene (g20) found in some cynophages was used as a proxy to infer genetic richness in natural cyanophage communities and to determine if sequences are more similar in similar environments. Results reveal that closely related hosts and the viruses infecting them are distributed widely both in marine and freshwater environments or that horizontal gene exchange occurs among phage communities from very different environments.

Accurate estimation of viral abundance by epifluorescence microscopy
Article Abstract:
Epifluorescence microscopy (EFM) helps to specify the virus and is generally conducted on freezed samples that are stored. Inspite of the fact that the speed at which decomposition takes place varies, the abundance is expressed with the help of distinct samples, which specify decay for the first 8 h and after 8 h.

Comparison of coliforms and coliphages as tools for assessment of viral contamination in river water
Article Abstract:
Evaluation of the presence of pathogenic viruses in the Moselle river is the main aim of this study. The comparison of the importance of thermotolerant coliforms and somatic coliphages for assessment of water quality is also explained.
