OAZ uses distinct DNA- and protein-binding zinc fingers in separate BMP-Smad and Olf signaling pathways
Article Abstract:
OAZ, a 30-zinc finger protein, uses exact DNA- and protein-binding zinc fingers in different Olf and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-Smad signaling pathways. OAZ has been identified as a DNA-binding factor associating with Smads in response to BMP2. It forms a complex that transcriptionally activates the homeobox regulator of Xenopus mesoderm and neural development, Xvent-2. BMPs are the largest group within the transforming growth factor beta superfamily of hormonally active factors.

Drosophila Dscam is an axon guidance receptor exhibiting extraordinary molecular diversity
Article Abstract:
Drosophila Dscam has been found to be an axon-guidance receptor exhibiting remarkable molecular diversity. A novel guidance receptor very closely related to a human protein called Down syndrome cell adhesion molecule (DSCAM), an immunoglobulin superfamily member, is described. A biochemical/genetic approach was taken to analysis of the Dock signal transduction pathway.

TGFbeta signaling in growth control, cancer, and heritable disorders
Article Abstract:
The molecular basis of signaling networks, which control growth, differentiation, and fate of metazoan cells, is examined at the level of interactions between the components of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta). The review addresses the influence of TGFbeta pathways on cell development. Alterations of the pathway lead to disorders in humans.
