Polygenic mutation in Drosophila melanogaster: genetic analysis of selection lines
Article Abstract:
Genetic analyses of long-term-replicate selection lines of Drosophila melanogaster from an inbred population with new mutations causing defects in sternopleural and abdominal bristle number reveals that high and low bristle number replicate lines varied by 12 bristles after nearly 100 generations of accumulated mutation. The low and high sternopleural number lines varied by 8 bristles. Biometric analysis of the number of factors that distinguish selection lines from the base population and the evaluation of the chromosomal distribution of effects that lead to selection response to each line help calculate the lowest number of loci that are involved in the selection response.

On models of quantitative genetic variability: a stabilizing selection-balance model
Article Abstract:
A stabilizing selection model for population genetics which exhibits stable polymorphic equilibria with linkage disequilibrium is presented. Some of its properties include specific distinctions between allele frequencies and the reduction of genotypic and phenotypic variance from expected levels at polymorphic equilibrium. The model allows definition of an upper bound for specific traits, and is thought to be applicable to higher levels of heritability.
