Population structure of Alexandrium (dinophyceae) cyst formation-promoting bacteria in Hiroshima Bay, Japan
Article Abstract:
A total of 31 bacterial isolates that have potential Alexandrium cyst formation-promoting activity (Alex-CFPB) were isolated from Hiroshima Bay, which is characterized by seasonal blooms of the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense. Results suggest that the Alexandrium cyst formation-inhibiting bacteria and Alex-CFPB might play significant roles in the process of encystment and bloom dynamics of Alexandrium in the natural environment.

Development of a real-time PCR assay for rapid detection and quantification of quantification of Alexandrium minutum (a Dinoflagellate)
Article Abstract:
Human health is under threat due to the occurrence of harmful algal bloom (HAB) events in marine waters along temperate coasts and in many of these HAB events one could see a proliferation of dinoflagellates like Alexandrium. A real-time PCR assay for rapid detection of Alexandrium was developed, where results confirmed that real-time PCR could be an alternative procedure for detection of target phyloplankton species.

Development of a real-time PCR probe for quantification of the heterotrophic dinoflagellate Cryptoperidiniopsis brodyi (Dinophyceae) in environmental samples
Article Abstract:
A TaqMan format real-time PCR probe is formulated against the internal transcribed spacer 2 ribosomal DNA region for the specific detection and quantification of Cryptoperidiniopsis brodyi in environmental samples. The field survey has shown that Cryptoperidiniopsis brodyi occurred in all seasons at very low densities.
