Prevalence and seasonal variations of six bee viruses in apis mellifera L. and varroa destructor mite populations in France
Article Abstract:
A survey of six bee viruses in apis mellifera L. and varroa destructor mite populations in France is undertaken with the help of seemingly healthy bee colonies and the PCR technique. The results reveal that bee virus infections occur in be populations despite the lack of clinical signs, suggesting that colony diseases might result from environmental factors that lead to activation of viral replication in bees.

A single locus determines thelytokous parthenogenesis of laying honeybee workers (Apis mellifera capensis)
Article Abstract:
The South African honeybee subspecies Apis mellifera capensis were used to analyze the genetic control of thelytoky (asexual production of female workers). The segregation pattern indicates a recessive allele causing thelytoky and no evidence was found of maternal transmission of bacterial endosymbionts controlling parthenogenesis.
