Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA analysis of clinical and environmental isolates of Vibrio vulnificus and other Vibrio species
Article Abstract:
The detection of Vibrio genus including V. vulnificus has been undertaken by devising a new randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) PCR method. The new RAPD method can clearly distinguish between various members of the Vibrio family and between isolates of V. vulnificus. The latter strain has a unique band pattern which indicates that members of this species are heterogeneous. The Vibrio species have amplification products whose sizes were within four common molecular weight ranges except V. vulnificus which has an extra two molecular weight range bands.

Role of iron in human serum resistance of the clinical and environmental Vibrio vulnificus genotypes
Article Abstract:
The clinical genotype of Vibrio vulnificus has better survival capability in human serum than the environmental genotype. The findings suggest that viuB, a siderophore-encoding gene, affects serum survivability in all isolates of Vibrio vulnificus.
