Rhizosphere selection of highly motile phenotypic variants of Pseudomonas fluorescens with enhanced competitive colonization ability
Article Abstract:
A large number of phenotypic variants are generated by overexpressing the genes encoding the site-specific recombinases and selection after prolonged laboratory cultivation and rhizosphere colonization. The results have shown that gac mutations are selected both in the stationary phase and during rhizosphere colonization and that overexpression of site-specific recombinases followed by a single rhizosphere passage allows the isolation of more competitive strains.

Bacillus anthracis multiplication, persistence, and genetic exchange in the Rhizosphere of grass plants
Article Abstract:
The capacity of Bacillus anthracis spores to germinate in the rhizosphere and to establish populations of vegetative cells that could support horizontal gene transfer in the soil is investigated. The results have shown that B. anthracis can survive as a saprophyte outside of the host and also that horizontal gene transfer in the rhizosphere of grass plants might play a role in the evolution of the Bacillus cereus group species.

Novel lectin-like bacteriocins of biocontrol strain Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf-5
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to examine bacteriocin production in rhizosphere-colonizing fluorescent Pseuodomonas strains. It is shown that both lectin-like putidacin A (llpA) homologues in strain Pf-5 are functional bacteriocin genes.
