Rice hull ash and silicic acid as adsorbents for concentration of bacteriocins
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the optimum pHs for the adsorption of five bacteriocins onto heat-treated alkaline rice hull ash (kRHA), acid-activated RHA (aRHA) and silicic acid (SA). The optimum conditions for the desorption of bacteriocins from kRHA, aRHA and SA and the specific activities resulting from the process were likewise analyzed. Using SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, it was observed that the removal of water increased adsorption onto SA and RHA. Results indicate that protein-protein weak hydrogen bonds influenced the absorption of bacteriocins onto RHA and SA.

Adsorption characteristics of cellulolytic enzymes from the anaerobic fungus Piromyces sp. strain E2 on microcrystalline cellulose
Article Abstract:
The cellulolytic enzymes of the anaerobic fungus Piromyces sp. strain E2, present in a high-molecular-mass (HMM) complex are adsorbed quickly and effectively onto microcrystalline cellulose. Avicel removes nearly all the activities of avicelase, endoglucanase, and beta-glucosidase from the HMM. This suggests the presence of a multiprotein enzyme complex which is not linked to the cell wall fragments. The dependence of the HMM complex on environmental factors such as the presence of cellulose for its existence is uncertain.

Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the production and distribution of endoglucanase, cellobiohydrolase, and beta-glucosidase components of the cellulolytic system of the edible straw mushroom Volvariella volvacea. The combined immunocytochemical and biochemical experiment was performed using confocal laser microscopy and cell fractionation. Results indicate that protein secretion by filamentous fungi may be restricted to the hyphal tip area.
