Risk of gastrointestinal disease associated with exposure to pathogens in the water of the Lower Passaic River
Article Abstract:
The risk of pathogen-related disease associated with combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharges into the Lower Passaic River is evaluated. The risk analysis has suggested that due to the levels of pathogens present in the Lower Passaic River, the contact with the water will continue to pose significant human risks until CSO discharges are controlled or abated.

Risk of gastrointestinal disease associated with exposure to pathogens in the sediments of the Lower Passaic River
Article Abstract:
The microbial contamination of river sediments near combined sewer overflows (CSOs), a known source of pathogens, is characterized. The risk assessment has shown that pathogen-contaminated sediments near areas of CSO discharge in the Lower Passaic River have posed a health risk to individuals coming into contact with sediments in the mudflat areas.

Spatial patterns in antibiotic resistance among stream bacteria: effects of industrial pollution
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that population of antibiotic resistant bacteria are higher in the midreaches of the streams polluted with industrial wastes. Data show a correlation between antibiotic resistance and mercury concentration suggesting heavy metal influence on the resistance development.
