Sequence of the 305 degrees-307 degrees region of the Bacillus subtilis chromosome
Article Abstract:
Nucleotide sequencing of the 20.3 kb region between the yvhj (305 degrees) and secA (307 degrees) indicated the presence of 23 complete open reading frames (ORFs). Nineteen of the ORFs have AUG initiation codons while two ORFs have GUG initiation codons. The chromosomal segment has a G+C content of 41.1% which is composed of divergons with inverted repeats that encode putative terminators. Furthermore, the non-coding regions exhibited a G+C content of 35.6%.

A 35.7 kb DNA fragment from the Bacillus subtilis chromosome containing a putative 12.3 kb operon involved in hexuronate catabolism and a perfectly symmetrical hypothetical catabolite-responsive element
Article Abstract:
The region of the Bacillus subtilis chromosome extending from the gene cotT at position 109.4 degrees and the gene rapA at position 112.4 degrees is mapped in conjunction with the Bacillus subtilis genome project. There are 35 open reading frames in this segment including an operon for the metabolism of extracellular hexuronate following a catabolite responsive element. Practically all genes mapped between cotA and rapA have not been reported previously.

Nucleotide sequence of the Bacillus subtilis temperate bacteriophage SP-beta-c2
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the nucleotide sequence of the Bacillus subtilis temperate bacteriophage SP-beta-c2. The sequencing was carried out using DNA of the thermoinducible mutant. Results indicated that the bacteriophage supported a lower G+C content and different usage of start codons. Findings also showed that the SP-beta-c2 promoter gions supported SOS box conesus sequences and a repeated motif.
