Slow and fast muscle fibres are preferentially derived from myoblasts migrating into the chick limb bud at different developmental times
Article Abstract:
An experiment conducted to identify location and timing of limb myoblast response to patterning cues showed that different fibre type fates are determined for subtypes of myoblasts even prior to entry into the limb. It was found that the earliest myoblast migrants contribute to slow primary myotubes while the later migrants give rise to fast myotubes. This shows in vivo evidence for diversity of limb myoblasts arising before the entry of myoblasts into the limb. The change in proportion of myoblasts related to slow and fast fiber types appears to be gradual.

The distribution of collapsin-1 mRNA in the developing chick nervous system
Article Abstract:
Collapsin-1 is a chick brain glycoprotein about 100 kilodaltons that blocks growth cone motility in vitro. In this study, mRNA distribution of collapsin during development of the chick was investigated using in situ hybridization. The results showed that collapsin-1 is expressed in specific regions in the central nervous system during the development of axonal pathways. This provides evidence consistent with the previously described role of collapsin-1 as a repulsive guidance cue in the developing nervous system.
