Complete spore-cortex hydrolysis during germination of Bacillus subtilis 168 requires SleB and YpeB
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that spore-cortex-lytic enzymes SleB and YpeB are required for normal germination of Bacillus subtilis spores as shown by the mutants carrying a defect in either of the genes exhibiting incomplete germination.

Structural analysis of Bacillus megaterium KM spore peptidoglycan and its dynamics during germination
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the composition and structure of peptidoglycan from dormant spores of Bacillus megaterium KM and its dynamics during germination. Amino acid analysis and mass spectrometry were carried out to determine 21 muropeptides resolved by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography. Results indicated the presence of products generated by the activity fo a glucosaminidase.
