Studies in swine on inheritance and variation in expression of small intestinal receptors mediating adhesion of the K88 enteropathogenic Escherichia coli variants
Article Abstract:
Six strains of K88 Escherichia coli, each expressing one of the three K88 fimbrial antigenic variants, K88ab, K88ac or K88ad were used in phenotyping 3 preparations of small intestinal enterocytes from 368 pigs in an in vitro adhesion test. All the tested pigs were grouped into four different adhesion brush border phenotypes. The presence of the mixed adhesion phenotype K88adM indicates that each of the two types of brush border adhesion for the K88ad antigen is expressed on independent enterocytes.

Analysis of the inheritance of NOR size variants in brown trout (Salmo trutta)
Article Abstract:
There is a clear nucleolar organizer region (NOR) size heteromorphism in the main NOR bearing chromosome pair 11 of brown trout (Salmo trutta). This indicates that there may be a structural polymorphism to explain NOR size variation. It seems that NOR size variants in brown trout are essentially stable, and thus segregate in a Mendelian way. However, new size variants can originate by recombination at considerable rates and have an impact on long chromosome stretches.

Comparison of acute endotoxin-induced lesions in A/J and C57BL/6J mice
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the acute histologic lesions in male A/J and c57BL/6J mice injected with endotoxin of Escherichia coli O265:B6. Livers were obtained from an additional two-sham and five LPS-injected mice to determine neutrophil infiltration. Results indicated that a large amount of degenerating neutrophils in the liver sinusoids and significant variations in neutrophil infiltration in B6 mice against to A/J mice.
