Substrate-induced production and secretion of cellulases by Clostridium acetobutylicum
Article Abstract:
The growth of and cellulase activity production by Clostridium acetobutylicum ATCC 824 on different carbon sources are tested. Western blotting antibodies raised against Escherichia coli-produced Ce1F determine the production of extracellular Ce1F by C. acetobutylicum and it is found that in lichenan- or xylose-grown cultures, a larger amount of Ce1F is present than in glucose- or cellobiose-grown cultures.

Density gradient enrichment of Escherichia coli conditional msbA mutants
Article Abstract:
An enrichment of conditional mutants defective in lipopolysacchraide export is demonstrated by using Ludox density gradient centrifugation. New temperature-sensitive mutants with lipid export detects are isolated with single missense mutations in msbA and the results have highlighted the method's power for studying lipid export in Escherichia coli.
