The control of maize spikelet meristem fate by the APETALA2-like gene indeterminate spikelet1
Article Abstract:
A gene called indeterminate spikelet1 (ids1) controls a determinate spikelet meristem fate and limits the number of floral meristems. Without the function of ids1 gene, the spikelet meristem is indeterminate; it produces extra florets. The number of florets in spikelets varies in the grass family. That indicates that ids1, which belongs to the APETALA2 (AP2) transcription factor gene family, might be a factor in inflorescence architecture in other grass species. In many types of side organ primordia, ids1 is expressed and it is expressed in spikelet meristems.

The fasciated ear2 gene encodes a leucine-rich repeat receptor-like protein that regulates shoot meristem proliferation in maize
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the meristems, the stem cells which carry the ability to initiate organs during the lifecycle. Results indicate that the cloned fea2 gene encodes the membrane localized leucine-rich repeat receptor-like protein related to CLAVATA2 from Arabidopsis and that the CLAVATA pathway for the meristem size regulation is functionally conserved throughout the angiosperms.

The knotted1-like homeobox gene BREVIPEDICELLUS regulates cell differentiation by modulating metabolic pathways
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on BREVIPEDICELLUS, a knotted1-like homeobox gene. The authors have investigated the metabolic printing for BREVIPEDICELLUS, and report that lignin pathway is a coordinate process regulated by BREVIPEDICELLUS.
