The crystal structure of the exon junction complex reveals how it maintains a stable grip on mRNA
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to understand the three-dimensional crystal structure of exon junction complex (EJC) which is formed by protein complexes such as elF4AIII, Barentsz [Btz], Mago, and Y14. EJC plays a major role in posttranscriptional regulation of mRNA in metazoa while the DEAD-box protein elF4AIII encloses an ATP molecule and provides the binding sites for six ribonucleotides.

The exosome and the proteasome: Nanocompartments for degradation
Article Abstract:
Exosomes and proteasomes appear to have convergently evolved as nano-compartments for degradation of macromolecules. The two complexes act on different substrates and are composed of different subunits. They share a similar barrel-like architecture that appears to have evolved to restrict substrate access and prevent indiscriminate degradation.

Towards a splicing code
Article Abstract:
Different experimental methods combined with facts led researchers to understand RNA segment better so that it may be selected or avoided in mature mRNAs because of exonic enhancers as well as silencers. Detailed analyses of RNAs that were conducted and the lengths of exons noted, are presented.
