The foraging ecology of cavity-nesting birds in young forests of the northern coast range of Oregon
Article Abstract:
The selection of foraging habitat and the foraging activities of cavity-nesting birds in the 30- to 40-yr-old Douglas-fir forests at the coast range of Oregon were examined. The birds included in the study were chestnut-backed chickadee (Poecile rufescens), red-breasted nuthatch (Sitta canadensis), brown creeper (Certhia americana) and hairy woodpecker (Picoides villosus). The results showed the selectivity of all four species in the use of forage substrates.

Forest structural characteristics of accipiter nesting habitat: Is there an allometric relationship?
Article Abstract:
A nesting habitat study was conducted to examine the relationship between accipiter size and the structural size of their nest trees and sites. The inverse correlation between the bird's body size and tree density, basal area and percent canopy closure is also evaluated. Only nest tree height and nest tree dbh showed correlation with body size. All accipiter species also preferred conifer and conifer/aspen forest for nesting habitat.

Accipiter predation of American Redstart nestlings
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the predation which occurs at the nests of American Redstarts. The reliability of studies into nest predation which is based on signs left by the predator at the nest is questioned.
