The love-hate relationship between Ras and Notch
Article Abstract:
Some of the mechanisms that are thought to control specific responses to Ras and Notch signaling are reviewed. Focus is laid on classic developmental genetic systems, the Caenorhabditis elegans vulva and the Drosophila eye, to study the Ras and Notch signaling states that suggest a variety of mechanisms that could explain the cooperative and antagonistic relationships observed between Ras and Notch in other developmental systems and during tumorigenesis.

Deregulated matriptase causes ras-independent multistage carcinogenesis and promotes ras-mediated malignant transformation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to show that matriptase possesses a strong oncogenic potential when unopposed by its endogenous inhibitor, HAI-1. It can be concluded that matriptase induced activation was frequently accompanied by H-ras and K-ras mutations in carcinogen-induced tumors, whereas matriptase-induced spontaneous carcinoma formation occurred independently of ras activation.
