The preprotein translocation channel of the outer membrane of mitochondria
Article Abstract:
The translocation of mitochondrial preproteins coded in the nucleus to the mitochondria is mediated by the preprotein translocase of the outer membrane of mitochondria or TOM complex. The Neuroepora TOM complex was purified and analyzed to determine its composition and functional properties. The complex measures 138 angstrom units and contains two to three pores with a diameter of 20 angstrom units.

The YTA10-12 complex, an AAA protease with chaperone-like activity in the inner membrane of mitochondria
Article Abstract:
The Yta10p and Yta12p belong to the AAA family of proteases embedded in the mitochondria. These metalloproteases form a complex (YTA10-12) which can degrade non-assembled inner membrane proteins or catalyze the assembly of membrane-associated ATP synthase. Both processes of assembly and degradation are ATP dependent and occur in the inner membrane of the mitochondria.
