The timing of maternal weight gain during pregnancy and fetal growth
Article Abstract:
Issues of growth retarded infants, as a result of maternal weight gain during each trimester, are discussed in this article. Research finds no validity in previous studies on the subject of timing as an indicator of infant growth, but data suggests that during the birth cycles associated with peak growth, periods of improved or increased nutrition mark the accelerated growth in length of an infant before proportionate growth in length and weight.

Timing of the influence of maternal nutritional status during pregnancy on fetal growth
Article Abstract:
Research has found that the nutritional status of pregnant women is more crucial at mid-term as a determinant of fetal growth. Although significant increases in newborn length, head circumference and weight were noted with each kilogram of weight gained by the mothers, mid-pregnancy nutrition was discovered to have more beneficial impact than late pregnancy nutrition.

The timing hypothesis and body proportionality of the intra-uterine growth retarded infant
Article Abstract:
Issues of intra-uterine growth retardation, or IUGR, are discussed in the article. Research refutes the hypothesis that IUGR is related to periods of stress during specific times in gestation.
