Variation in resistance to hydrostatic pressure among strains of food-borne pathogens
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to investigate the variation in pressure resistance among six to nine strains of food-borne pathogens from four genera at 25 degrees and 50 degrees C. Results indicate that strains of food-borne pathogens differ in resistance to hydrostatic pressure at 25 degrees C. However, this difference is greatly lessened at 50 degrees C. The pressurization of food-borne pathogens at 50 degrees C, instead of 25 degrees C, will ensure greater food safety.

Construction of a range of derivatives of the biological control strain Agrobacterium rhizogenes K84: a study of factors involved in biological control of crown gall disease
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze a range of derivatives to strain K84 with the combination of three resident plasmids and to evaluate the efficacy of the strains in the biological control of an Agrobacterium rhizogenes pathogen. The adapted miniprep technique was utilized to isolate plasmids from the strains. Results indicated that strains deficient in agrocin 434 production support a critical function in the biological control of A. rhizogenes pathogens.
