Article Abstract:
Model-based Clustering, a grouping algorithm, is used to obtain more objective data than conventional cluster techniques. The method is applied to the banking industry in Spain; results show an absence of identical industrywide groupings from year to year, but strategic instability is evident during major environmental disturbances.

Japanese Retailing Through the 1990s: Retailer Performance in a Decade of Slow Growth
Article Abstract:
An overview is presented on successful and unsuccessful strategies used by Japanese retailers during the economic recession of the 1990s. Successful strategies included quick responses to e-tailing, foreign retailing and emerging market segments; unsuccessful strategies included opening more stores and failing to restructure.
