Sun Microsystems automates financial reporting
Article Abstract:
Sun Microsystems has been expanding at a rate of 100% a year since 1982 when it was founded, and because of the fast growth in a seven-year period, the firm has reorganized every 12 to 18 months. Ultimately, Sun needed to get a new system for its accounting and reporting structure. The company chose Kay Consulting's (Manhattan Beach, CA) CONTROL accounting package. CONTROL, an application that combines financial functionality and reporting capabilities, allowed the firm to: streamline the effort involved in reorganization; free up its information systems resources; and conduct product margin analysis. CONTROL, by consolidating spreadsheets for financial planning, has led to significant time savings in the gathering of information for the firm.

Reshaping finance at DEC
Article Abstract:
Digital Equipment Corp reorganized its financial operation in response to rapid growth and the decentralization of corporate resources. The fiscal and management reporting structures were retooled into a corporation-wide financial architecture of five interrelated programs that created a distributed accounting environment. The corporation's financial systems were also restructured to give access to decentralized operating units. A standardized, corporation-wide classification of accounting data was developed through a common chart of accounts. The Common Financial Systems program was developed to offer standard financial software applications to support corporation-wide financial operations.
