Many small Australian accounting firms are forming alliances, allowing them to protect their independence and to gain access to vital resources and knowledge. These alliances include AIM, the members of which have more than A$1 billion under management.

Hayes Knight will go national in Australia to have annual fees of $8 million. The growth of the firm has resulted in 30 partners and 225 employees in 1998. The firm provides a practice and consulting manual for $1500 which is utilized by 100 New Zealand firms and 500 Australian firms. Finance, administration and marketing are broken down so that the best method of efficiency and for profit are implemented.

Smaller firms prove the power of developing a niche practice
Article Abstract:
Roussety and Co. and Acumen Alliance, two of the smaller firms listed in Business Review Weekly's Top 100 Accounting Firms, rated number one and two in fees-per-partner ratio, largely because of their specialized practices. Roussety, which works with franchise-sector clients, had $3.35 million in fees per partner, as well as a three-year growth of 116%. Acumen Alliance, specializing in government consulting, had fees per partner of about $2.26 million. A two-year growth-rate of more than 150% is expected by June 2000.
