A microeconomic model of the focused factory-vertical integration strategic decision problem
Article Abstract:
A proposed model uses cash flow analysis to examine the behavior of a firm's risk and value with prospects of vertical integration. At different points along the focus-integration line, managers can measure the changes to the variable and fixed cost as well as to the different risk components that comprise the firm's value. Therefore, the model allows managers to identify the trade-offs that must be made as their firm's strategies are formed.

A mixed-integer programming approach to take-or-pay contract (TOP) decision models ensures effective management of TOP contracts between purchasers and suppliers of natural resources. The model considers two types of TOP contracts, one with make-up provisions and another with multiple year make-up provisions necessary to the management of TOP contracts and requisition and contract portfolio strategies that concentrate on reducing costs.
