A not-so-Lonely Planet
Article Abstract:
Lonely Planet Publications and electronic commerce company eKorp.com have launched a joint venture allowing travellers to pay for services on Lonely Planet's World Wide Web site with a smart card. Lonely Planet's site offers travelers free e-mail and voice mail. Fee services, such as long-distance phone calls, are paid with the smart card. Cash that is loaded on the system becomes a float, earning revenue for the joint venture. With the venture, eKorp.com expects $9 million in revenue in 1999.
