A probabilistic decision model for entity matching in heterogeneous databases
Article Abstract:
Entity heterogeneity is a special type of semantic heterogeneity that arises when the representation of a real-world entity differs in two databases. The problem of entity matching, which requires identifying which entity in a database is the same as an entity in another, is tackled. A model for performing comparisons of entities in one database with those in another database is proposed for ascertaining the potential of making a match. This decision theoretic model uses probability theory to incorporate the uncertainty that usually accompanies the decision to match two entities from two different databases. An integer programming formulation that restricts the total cost arising from the matching decision is then recommended. The model has been validated on real-world data.

On the replenishment of repair kit inventories for systems with life distributions of phase type
Article Abstract:
Mathematical models are developed to manage an inventory of repair kits for hypothetical situations in which equipment system failures may be reparable or irreparable. The models also assume that irreparable failure will occur at some time in the system's future; this consideration is included as a random variable. System repair involves the permanent removal of a kit from inventory. The models identify usage of and reorder strategies for repair kits.

A note on the minimization of mean squared deviation of completion times about a common due date
Article Abstract:
A conceptual flaw that is present in a recent publication is identified regarding the minimization of means squared deviation of completion times about a common due date in manufacturing. Additionally, a modification to methodology is developed which can correct the conceptual flow, as well as improve bounds to determine the nature of a given problem.
