Australia's Renewable Energy Corp (REC) has reached an agreement with Smithfield Foods of the US, the largest pork manufacturer in the world, to develop and market a waste-to-energy system to deal with pig manure. It is anticipated that a pilot scheme will be in operation by mid-2002.
