A suspicious mind: profile of a forensic accountant
Article Abstract:
Former IRS Criminal Investigation Division chief Robert G. Roche is joining other former top IRS agents in forming The Financial Investigative Services Group, a nationwide private financial investigation network. Roche has received specialized training from the IRS on how to conduct forensic investigations, encompassing interview techniques and various methods of proof. He believes a forensic accountant must have a suspicious mind, be able to look beyond the face value of records, and must be prepared for such activities as conducting surveillances, reviewing telephone toll records, conducting mail watches, and even examining suspects' trash. Roche believes that demand for forensic accountants will increase, and says public accounting firms may have to inaugurate training programs similar to that of the IRS.
