Compaq's new series has a quaint old look and slick new features

Compaq Computer will introduce its $999 (without monitor) EZ PC series with an eye toward 20th century design. The roundish, blue-grey machines feature a digital dashboard resembling a radio dial. The Windows PC's have 64 memory megabytes, a 17 gigabyte hard disk, CD-ROM and CD-RW drives and a 500MHz Celeron processor. Connections are through the 4 USB ports or the 2 FireWire ports. And because customers wanted it, Compaq includes a floppy-disk drive.

AOL takes a bold step in linking TV to Web, but it's a weak link

America Online presents AOLTV, a $249 slim box that sits atop a television set that offers regular viewing, interactive channels, the opportunity to chat with other AOL members, simultaneous e-mail enabling the viewer to exchange messages in real time. Philips Electronics manufactures the box. The author found porblems with the set-up, customer service and general directions. AOL, which plans a national rollout of the product for fall says they will address these problems. Service is $25 a month.

Apple brings its flair for smart designs to digital music player
Article Abstract:
Apple Computer has released its first noncomputer product in several years, a digital music player called the iPod. It costs around $399 and is reputed to be one of the best digital music players on the market. One drawback is that the iPod only works with Apple's Macintosh computers.
