Accelerating the process of engineering change orders: capacity and congestion effects
Article Abstract:
The complexity of engineering change orders (ECO) can be simplified using a process-based approach that takes into consideration the ECO lead time. A case study of climate control system development in a new vehicle shows that organizations can use five strategies to dramatically lower ECO lead time, namely, balanced workloads, flexible capacity, pooling, merged tasks and reduced setups and batching. The streamlined ECO process is advantageous in many respects, including quality improvement and immediate feedback.
