Africa acts as magnet to Australian miners

Australia is looking to Zimbabwe and other African states to grow its metal and mineral industries. Existing mines in Australia have been largely played out, and establishing new mines is difficult due to native title claims. Zimbabwe has granted Cambrian Resources permission to work a previously abandoned gold mine, and has set up a partnership with Delta Gold for a plantinum mine.

Pioneer open to takeover, if it benefits shareholders

Well-esteemed Pioneer International may opt to merge within the building materials industry, if it would benefit shareholders, following a worldwide trend in the industry. It hopes in the interim to focus on international expansion and has spent Australian $900 million on international acquisitions since last year, but does not intend to make a major acquisition in lieu of merging.
