Hughes Electronics may get $1 billion in extra revenue from ICO satellites
Article Abstract:
With the expected acquisition of ICO Global Communications Ltd. by Craig McCaw's Teledesic L.L.C., Hughes Electronics Corp. may see about $1 billion in contracts. The company may supply up to eight communications satellites to the new venture, in addition to engineering and systems-integration services. ICO is emerging from bankruptcy protection and will be merged with Teledesic in an effort to take advantage of ICO's high-orbit satellite constellation and Teledesic's high-speed computer data transmission satellites. However, it's not yet been determined how completely the two systems will be linked together.
